Places to Visit

Whilst staying with us in Newbury you are able to visit various other towns and cities all within a couple of hours by car or train. We’ve taken a look at a few of the places which you can visit.

Bournemouth

Bournemouth is a large coastal town on the south coast of England, it is approximately an hour and a half away from Newbury by car or train. If you are looking to spend a day by the sea, Bournemouth typifies a British beach town boasting a clean sandy beach with a small pier featuring carousels, arcade games, ice cream stands and more.Some of the Uk’s most beautiful beaches are in Bournemouth and the surrounding areas, there are also stunning gardens to explore in Bournemouth as well as an Oceanarium, Art Galleries and Museums and many more.

London

Set on the River Thames, The capital of England, London is very much a modern city with history stretching back to Roman times. You can find yourself right in the centre of London from Newbury within 50 minutes by train. There are a number of iconic landmarks across London to visit from Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey to the London Eye and the tallest building in Europe, The Shard. London is also famous for shopping, Carnaby Street, Harrods and Bond Street being the most well known areas. There is a wide variety of Museums to visit including the National History Museum, Science Museum, National Gallery, Tate Modern and many more. You certainly won’t be bored in London.

Bath

Bath is located just over an hour away from Newbury, it is easily accessible by car or train. Best known for its Roman Baths and natural hot springs, this is the only place in the UK where you can bathe in the thermal water that comes directly from the natural springs deep beneath the city. If you enjoy stunning architecture then you will have certainly not be disappointed in Bath, the main attractions here are the Roman Baths, Royal Crescent, Thermal Bath Spa, Bath Abbey and many more including a wide variety of museums.

Bristol

Bristol is England’s sixth most populous city beside the River Avon in southwest England, just a few miles away from the Severn Bridge, linking England and Wales.
Bristol is approximately an hour away from Newbury by car or train. When in Bristol, you can board Brunel’s SS Great Britain and discover the stories behind the ship that changed
the world. There is also a variety of things to see at the Bristol Museum and Art Gallery and Bristol Cathedral. There are a variety of other attractions such as Cabot Circus
shopping centre, Bristol Zoo, Cabot Tower, Bristol Harbour and many more.

Oxford

Set in central southern England, Oxford revolves around its prestigious university, the oldest university in the English speaking world. Situated just 27 miles away from Newbury you can be in Oxford in just over 30 minutes. There are some fantastic museums including the Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology, the University Museum of Natural History and Pitt Rivers Museum. There is also stunning architecture throughout the city, Oxford university is a must see if visiting for the first time.

Southampton

Southampton is just 38 miles away from Newbury, less than an hour by car it is also the largest city in the county of Hampshire on the south coast of England, most well known for being where the Titanic departed from in 1912. Southampton is known as the cruise capital of Europe with many cruise liners departing from Southampton. There is plenty to do from museums, theatres, art galleries and fantastic shopping facilities.
